Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – A state of tension hung over the Ain al-Hilweh camp for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, on Sunday evening, for several hours, following an assassination attempt on an Islamic activist in the underground street, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
And the agency added: “An unknown gunman opened fire on the activist near the Khaled bin Al-Walid Mosque, and the explosion of two missile shells was heard, which reverberated in the city of Sidon.”
In conjunction with the state of tension, “the gunmen intensified their deployment between the Safsaf and Barkasat areas, following the shooting by a gunman called (the Somali), at an Islamic activist at the vegetable market, in the center of the camp, which led to his injury in the foot,” the National News Agency added.
And the agency added: “After the operation, bursts of medium machine guns, hand grenades, and rocket shells exploded, which resulted in a number of wounded, including two girls. They were taken to the (Humanitarian Appeal) hospital in the camp for treatment.”
“The camp also witnessed the displacement of a number of families towards the neighboring villas, while calm returned to the camp, after intensive contacts for a cease-fire and things to return to normal,” according to the Lebanese Agency.
