Errol Spence Plans Rematch with Terence Crawford After Welterweight Defeat

Now former world welterweight champion Errol Spence has said he wants to exercise his right to a rematch with undisputed world welterweight champion Terence Crawford.

Spence, who held the WBC, IBF and WBA belts, lost to WBO champion Crawford by TKO in the ninth round in the fight for the undisputed world title, which took place on July 29 in Las Vegas.

“This was not my day. Today, the strongest won, and I’m not going to look for excuses, ”Spence said at the post-match press conference. – He did his job. I had problems with timing, I could not take advantage of some moments. His timing was much better than mine, so he was able to hit the cut.”

Before the fight, the champions agreed that the losing side would have the right to a rematch, and Spence intends to use it, but in a new weight category.

“Damn, we should do it again,” Spence said immediately after the fight ended. The second fight will be much better. This could probably happen in December before the end of the year. We have to do it again.”

At a press conference, Spence noted, however, that he had already outgrown the welterweight division.

“Yes, I think that was my last fight in this weight,” said the boxer. – I hope the next fight will be in the junior middleweight division. We need to discuss this with the whole team, but I hope it will be the first middleweight. Weight cutting has always been difficult, but I’m not looking for excuses. Today the strongest has won.”

Spence, who had never lost before and had never been knocked down, won only one round out of eight on the cards of each of the three judges in the fight against Crawford, and was knocked down three times.
