Discover Opera Star Olha Bezsmertna: Her Journey, Performances, and Support for Ukraine

To really understand and discover opera heroines, you need life experience – the internationally popular Ukrainian opera star Olha Bezsmertna is convinced. The nuanced sound of her voice and her performance as an actress are highly appreciated and welcomed on the stages of many of Europe’s most important theaters, starting with the Vienna State Opera, where the artist became a soloist immediately after her triumphant victory in the international competition New voices in 2011 in Germany. Since 2020, when the singer chose the path of a freelance artist, she has already performed repeatedly, even at the selective Salzburg Festival, and was also loved by the erudite, emotionally direct audience of Milan’s La Scala. The 29th Sigulda Opera Music Festival will finally provide an opportunity to get to know this beautiful voice in Latvia. More specifically, the special production of this holiday, Charles Gounod’s opera Faust, in which Olha Bezsmertna will play the role of Margaret. The show will take place on the stage of the ruins of Sigulda on Saturday, July 29, at 21.

A real star – said the conductor, the musical director of Faust’s production Atvars Lakstigala after meeting at the first rehearsal, being happy that Olha is a warm, pleasant, simple woman. By the way, the mother of three children. Dainis Kalns, the long-time organizer of the Sigulda Opera Music Festival, admits that “there has never been such an outstanding singer in the entire history of the Opera Music Festival”. On the other hand, after arriving in Riga, Olha said to those who greeted her: “Thank you Latvia for the huge support for Ukraine.”

Also in our conversation, she emphasizes how important world support is for Ukraine.

Let’s start with Ukraine…

The colossal support tirelessly provided by Latvia and also Lithuania, the attitude of the people. Seeing the video of the Song Festival sent by your tenor Alexander Antonyenko, in which the entire huge choir sang the Ukrainian national anthem, I was filled with such pride and excitement, such a feeling of happiness and gratitude! Thank you so much for your support! Then, when we have finally won, the state of Ukraine and the entire nation will thank Latvia from the bottom of their hearts. Ukrainians are already doing it. Gratitude is just as important as help and support. Thank you for your warm hearts, for your responsiveness. For helping our people so much and so selflessly.
