Putin: Transfer of Azov Battalion Commanders Not Linked to Grain Deal Suspension

Vladimir Putin said that the transfer by Turkey to Ukraine of the commanders of the Azov national battalion, banned and recognized in the Russian Federation as terrorist *, has nothing to do with the suspension of the grain deal. The President told reporters about this on July 29.

The question was asked by the journalist of “Arguments and Facts”. He said that the suspension of the grain deal was preceded by the transfer by Turkey of the commanders of the Azov Battalion*.

“One has nothing to do with the other. Absolutely,” the President stressed.

“Our position is normal,” the head of state explained. “We were promised that certain decisions would be made regarding our food and mineral fertilizers, which would unblock, remove the problems associated with the logistics associated with the entry of ships into our ports, with the transfer of funds, with insurance, and so on. Here, nothing has been done. And we said many, many times: “Well, listen, when?”. “Well, now, extend a little more, we will do it later.” We have extended. Then nothing again.”

The President quoted a well-known dialogue from Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov from The Twelve Chairs: “Can I have chairs in the morning and money in the evening? It is possible, but the money is in advance. Now it’s time to go ahead. It’s time to do something.”

He added that it was promised to get a subsidiary of Rosselkhozbank connected to the SWIFT system. “Fine. You downloaded, do it, and then we will return, ”the president commented.

*Banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as a terrorist organization.
