Chocolate bars are threatening to become more expensive again. In large cocoa countries such as Ghana and Ivory Coast, many cocoa trees have been destroyed, partly due to heavy rainfall and a disease that causes rotting of the crops.
According to Fuad Mohammed Abubakar, the head of Ghana Cocoa Marketing Company UK, bean processing has also declined worldwide. That is another reason that manufacturers are currently struggling to access sufficient volumes.
