Botafogo’s New Signing, Matthew Ponte, Arrives in Rio de Janeiro for Medical Examinations and Contract Signing

Accompanied by family members and his girlfriend, the right-back matthew ponte disembarked late Saturday morning (7/29) at Galeão Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, to undergo medical examinations and sign a contract with the Botafogo. He was greeted by some supporters and spoke briefly to the press.

– I am very happy to be in a club as big as Botafogo. I hope to be with my new teammates soon and win many titles here. I come to give everything and we are going to give everything to be champions of the Brasileirão – said Ponte upon arrival, to the channel “BTB Sports”.

After a negotiation that dragged on longer than expected, Botafogo and Danubio reached an agreement over the payment of US$ 2 million (about R$ 9.5 million at current prices). Mateo Ponte will sign a contract until 2026.

At the age of 20, Mateo Ponte arrives to reinforce a needy sector of Botafogo. The wing-back won the Under-20 World Cup, was called up to Uruguay’s senior squad and was also in the sights of Juventus, Toulouse and Famalicão.
