PSV will take action against the webshop that sold the controversial stickers. When a supporter ordered a PSV sticker package from a webshop, he received an unsolicited sticker with ‘Amsterdam Gay Lovers’ on it. PSV emphasizes that the stickers do not come from the official PSV webshop and that the club’s logo has been used without permission.
On Friday, a PSV supporter reported discrimination after ordering the PSV sticker package from WijZijnEindhoven.nl. Nowhere on the seller’s website did it say that the stickers with ‘Amsterdam Gay Lovers’ would be included in the package. The fan suspected that the stickers are intended as an insult.
‘These stickers are not from PSV’
PSV has now also announced in an official response that they are not served by the action. “These stickers are not ours and our brand cannot be sold as such,” a spokeswoman said. On Monday, the club will send a letter to the webshop with the request to stop selling the stickers.
The owner of the webshop already informed Omroep Brabant on Friday that the sticker may have accidentally ended up in the package. He thinks the sticker is not offensive.
‘Football is for everyone’
The PSV spokeswoman says she is surprised at the reaction of the webshop. “I’m guessing it’s meant to be negative.” Recently, there has been a lot of attention for anti-gay chants in the stadium, also at PSV. The club emphasizes that it pays a lot of attention to gay acceptance. “Football is for everyone,” said the spokeswoman. “We do our best to make that voice heard.”
