Jakarta –
As many as three family members decided to try living in the wild without being connected to a communication network. But unlucky, they were found dead emaciated.
Three Colorado family members died while trying to live in the wild in the Rocky Mountains, citing the BBC Friday (28/7/2023). Other family members and investigators came forward.
The emaciated bodies of sister Christine and Rebecca Vance and their 14-year-old son were found at a remote campground this month.
On Tuesday, an investigator revealed that they may have died from starvation or exposure to extreme temperatures during the winter.
It seems the group started camping last summer and died over the winter.
“He didn’t like the way the world was running, and he thought it would be best if he and his son and Christine lived alone, away from everyone,” Rebecca Vance’s half-brother, Trevala Jara, told the Washington Post.
The group, which included a sister who was in her 40s, had no experience of surviving in the wild. They only watched video tutorials to learn how to survive in the harsh Colorado backcountry, said Jara.
“You can’t go on the internet and watch videos about how to live in the wild, and then actually do it, if you don’t have any experience of how to do it,” Jara told the Colorado Springs Gazette.
“You can’t do that. They starve to death because they aren’t ready,” he said.
All three are from Colorado Springs. Officers said their cause of death had not been determined and would not be released until the toxicology report was complete.
On July 9, a hiker found their decomposing bodies at Campground Gold Creek, Gunnison National Forest.
Gunnison County staffer Michael Barnes said that two bodies were found in the tent, while the others were found outside, at about 2,900 meters above sea level.
