Renewed Production of Legendary Rock Opera ‘Lāčplēsis’ Celebrates 35th Anniversary in Lielvārde Park

In the height of summer, on July 28, in Lielvārde Park, the renewed production of the legendary rock opera “Lāčplēsis” by Zigmar Liepiņš and Māras Zālīte took place. Celebrating the 35th anniversary of this work and the 135th anniversary of Andrej Pumpura’s epic “Lāčplēsis”, the rock opera will be performed for the first time in Andreja Pumpura’s birthplace in Lielvārde.

The presence of the historical place, the interplay of nature with the participants of the performance and also the local independent collectives, as well as the ambitious technical solutions made it possible to feel the new meaning and power of the ancient message.

“The production is like a fruit that slowly ripens. It is a process in which the participants, all creators, technical solutions, also external influences meet and there is a clear path ahead, which we are walking together with a great team, where everyone has something to say,” director Rēzija Kalniņa says. .

The new production of the rock opera brought together a powerful creative team, bright performers and popular artists. The role of Lāčplēš was entrusted to the singer Atis Zviedre, Laimdot was played by the owner of a delicate and nuanced voice, the vocalist Beāte Zviedre.
