As we reported yesterday, forward Vladimir Tarasenko has signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Ottawa Senators. The contract comes with a no-trade clause.
The 31-year-old has just completed a brief stint with the New York Rangers after being traded last season, and it was his ability to find the back of the net that caught the eye of Sens general manager Pierre Dorian.
That said, the Russian took a long time to sign, he even fired his agent during the free agent period and we learn today that it cost him several million.
As Andy Strickland reports, Tarasenko received a four-year, $5.5 million per season offer from Ottawa when the market opened on July 1. He also had one-year offers from Carolina at $5.25 million and one-year offers from San Jose at $6 million.
