Renovation works are currently underway on the historic stone bridge on the Aoos river in Konitsa, as well as the lighting that highlights the monument in an impressive way by the Municipality of Konitsa.
The interventions started in 2020 and after coordinated actions and extensive work, this year we have an excellent result that successfully contributes to the highlighting and aesthetic upgrading of the monument, which is a symbol of Konitsa.
At the entrance of the Aoos ravine, the bridge is a pole of attraction for fellow citizens and hundreds of visitors, especially in the summer months when an impressive increase in traffic is recorded.
The bridge was built in 1870-71 with donations from the city’s residents, by a crew of fifty craftsmen led by master craftsman Ziogas Frontzos from Pyrsogianni. It measures 36 meters wide and 20 meters high, while under its arch you can see the small bell that rang to warn passers-by not to cross the bridge when a strong wind blew from inside the ravine.
