In the NHK Taiga Drama “Dosuru Ieyasu”, the production while incorporating a new historical interpretation has become a hot topic. In the 28th “Honnoji Incident”, Tokugawa Ieyasu heads to Sakai after receiving news that Oda Nobunaga has entered Honnoji. While interacting with merchants in Sakai, he prepares to defeat Nobunaga, but…About this highlight“The Tokugawa Shogun, who is somewhat human”Tomoyuki Mayama, author and great researcher, explains. The reason why Nobunaga had only a few close contacts

The “Honnoji Incident”, in which Nobunaga Oda was killed by Mitsuhide Akechi, is considered to be the greatest mystery in Japanese history. It is natural to assume that Nobunaga did not anticipate the rebellion of his vassals because of the small number of his forces. After all, it is said that only 100 apprentices were on Nobunaga’s side.

The reason why he entered Kyoto with a small number of people was that Hideyoshi HASHIBA was attacking Takamatsu Castle in Bicchu (Okayama Prefecture), which belonged to Terumoto MORI. “Nobunaga Koki”, the life story of Oda Nobunaga, explains that he did not allow many people to accompany him because he had ordered his generals to depart for the front.

“I went up to Kyoto with 20 or 30 Osho people. I was ordered to prepare for battle and stand by, as soon as I received an order.” I didn’t go with anyone other than the pages.”

However, in the Taiga drama “What to do with Ieyasu”, the last episode, “The duel at Azuchi-jo Castle,” took a step forward in interpreting this lack of strength and attracted a lot of attention. He said, “The reason why I had so few forces was because I was prepared that there would be no stopping even if Nobunaga was killed.”

As a refresher, let’s take a look back at the scene. Ieyasu Tokugawa (played by Jun Matsumoto) decides to take revenge on Nobunaga Oda (played by Junichi Okada) after his wife and children are killed. However, when Ieyasu was invited to the reception, Nobunaga said,

“Are you trying to ambush me in Kyoto and avenge me? Stop it, you can’t do it.”

And Nobunaga reveals to Ieyasu for the first time how lonely he is. Regarding the death of Ieyasu’s wife and children, he spit out, “I’m sorry, I’m stupid!”

“To kill someone means to accept all the pain, suffering, and resentment! If you kill 10 people, you will feel 10 pains. If you kill 100 people, you will feel 100 pains. !”

And Nobunaga utters a shocking line.

“I’m heading to Kyoto with a small force. If you’re really prepared to take my place, kill me. I’ll wait for you.”

Will Ieyasu really be able to defeat Nobunaga?
