The former SHL player Timo Hirvonen has left the world, TPS Åbo announced on social media under Friday. He played 14 seasons in the Finnish top flight – and over 600 matches. He represented Kiekko-Espoo and Saimaan Pallo.
Hirvonen also played in Sweden and the SHL (then the Elitserien), but not for very long.
He was recruited to qualifying Malmö in the spring of 2005 and was part of the team that was relegated. But left after the club left that spring. In total, there were 17 matches in the Malmö jersey.
He is the father of Roni Hirvonen, 21, who was drafted 59th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.
The former forward turned 49 years old.
