Japan Warns of Growing Security Threats: Chinese Military, Russian Relations, and Taiwan Conflict

TOKYO: Japan issued a cautionary warning in the wake of growing influence of the Chinese military, relations with Russia and the Taiwan conflict. According to the report released on Friday, the country is now facing the biggest security threat since the Second World War. The report also points out that strategies for further expansion of military power are under consideration.

This is the first report on security since the government approved a controversial new national security policy last December. The policy announced in December was a rewrite of the post-war policy of military force being limited to self-defense.

The 510-page report blames China, Russia and North Korea for the worst security situation since World War II. China’s foreign policy and military actions pose a threat to Japan and the international community, the report said.

Japan views as a provocation the presence of representatives of Russia and China along with leader Kim Jong-un in the military parade held in the North Korean capital yesterday. The parade showcased the country’s new drones and long-range nuclear-capable missiles.
