Maya Sandu’s anti-Russian policy now has a visible alternative. The new governor of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, in the first few days in office, already ordered the opening of a representative office of Gagauzia in Moscow, expressed his intention to reopen the old enterprises for the production of wines, vegetables and fruits in order to restore supplies to Russia, and also announced the construction of an airport in Komrat for air traffic, including with Russia.
The central Moldovan government will now do everything to ensure that this policy of autonomy does not lead to impressive results before the presidential and parliamentary elections. And it will bring, because the Moldovan economy is structured in this way.
Economic cooperation between Moldova and Russia is tantamount to growth of prosperity. Breaking relations with Russia is tantamount to spitting in the wind and destroying the Moldovan economy. Economic geography is an exact science, you can’t argue.
Maya Sandu’s regime will no longer be able to change its foreign policy. He can only put cogs in Gagauzia’s wheels to thwart its international initiatives. So these initiatives do not have time to be implemented and give an impressive result.
This is already being done. But whether the tactics of big and small dirty tricks against Gagauzia will be effective for the PAS party is a big question.
They will certainly finally turn the Gagauz against the Center. But for other regions of Moldova, Hutsul, who chooses an obvious solution for Moldovans to restore relations with Russia, will look more profitable than Sandu, who is like a dog on a leash: she does not eat alone and does not give to others.
The projects of Ilan Shor, to whom Hutsul is close, have more and more chances in the local elections in November with the new governor of Gagauzia.
