New rumors suggest that Sony plans to equip one of the new versions of PlayStation 5 with a different, slightly more modern processor. This could mean that the PS5 will be quieter and generate lower temperatures. There is also a slim version on the horizon.
PlayStation 5 went on sale in November 2020 and has only had one modification since then. New rumors suggest that Sony will soon release a refreshed version with a different processor, thanks to which the console will run a little quieter.

A new version of PlayStation 5. It’s supposed to run quieter
PlayStation 5 was initially produced with an AMD-supplied APU in a 7-nanometer process. At the end of 2022, consoles with a more modern 6 nm APU began to hit stores, and now – according to the data of one of the informants – Sony is to bet on even newer APUs produced in the 5 nm process.
Such a procedure it will allow Sony to slightly redesign the inside of the console and possibly reduce production costs. However, it will also bring benefits to the players. The APU in the new model will generate lower temperatures at a similar level of efficiency, which means that the PS5 cooling system will be able to work more quietly. The problem is that so far it is not known which version of the console the new chip will go to.
PlayStation 5 Slim is on the horizon
PlayStation 5 equipped with the new APU is expected to hit stores before the end of the year. Interestingly, at a similar date (according to rumors) the unannounced PS5 Slim version is to be launched on the market. So nothing stands in the way of a new computing system being prepared with the PS5 Slim in mind. According to unofficial information, the Slim version will be offered by default in a digital version, but those willing will be able to buy an external drive for it. Slim will also be smaller and lighter than the standard console, which is of great importance to some players (PS5 was criticized for being too large).
Sony has not officially confirmed anything so far, but the release of the PS5 Slim would be a fairly natural step in the evolution of the console. It was similar in the case of the previous generation, when the PS4 Slim and Pro versions hit the market three years after the launch of PlayStation 4, i.e. in the fall of 2006. PS5 Slim may hit the market just before the hottest pre-Christmas period. The possible debut of the more efficient PS5 Pro version will reportedly take place no earlier than in the second half of 2024.
