Düsseldorf Airport wants compensation from activists from the climate protection group Last Generation. Appropriate claims will be asserted, said an airport spokesman for the German Press Agency. A good two weeks ago, several activists cut through a fence and stuck themselves to the runway. The result was flight cancellations and delays. A similar action had also taken place at Hamburg Airport.
At the time, Düsseldorf Airport announced that it would examine possible claims for damages. It is now clear that action will be taken against the activists: “In addition to pursuing civil claims for damages, Düsseldorf Airport has filed a criminal complaint and criminal complaints with the responsible police as a precaution,” said a spokesman.
Düsseldorf Airport: 48 flights had to be cancelled
The extent of the damage to the airport fence “and lost revenue due to the interruption of flight operations” could “not yet be conclusively quantified”.
According to earlier information, a total of 48 flights had been canceled and two diverted in Düsseldorf. According to this, many of the 480 flights were delayed until the evening, in some cases up to 90 minutes. According to the public prosecutor’s office, nine suspects are being investigated for property damage and trespassing.
