PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan celebrates over 40 million PlayStation 5 sales and addresses launch challenges amid COVID-19 pandemic

And you blog posts says PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan that they have now sold over 40 million PlayStation 5 consoles.

In his letter of thanks to the players, the CEO reminisces about how the company had challenges in reaching the target for the launch of the console in 2020.

– We launched the PlayStation 5 in November 2020, and the world was then in a strange and different place than when we announced the console in 2019. Even with the unprecedented challenges of COVID, our teams and our partners worked hard to deliver the console on time, writes Ryan.

Both before and after launch, it was very difficult to get hold of a PlayStation 5, and retailers received small batches in droves several months later. In addition, the corona pandemic ensured that no consoles were sold in stores at launch.

By early 2023, Ryan said the delivery issues were over, and he reiterates this point in the blog post.
