The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania has sent a request to President Gitanas Nausėda to deprive figure skater Margarita Drobiazko of citizenship. About it informs LRT (site blocked in Russia).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that Drobyazko “collaborates with Tatyana Navka, the wife of the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, participates in the shows organized by her and allegedly receives remuneration for this.”

“The events in which Drobyazko participates contribute to the formation of the image of Russia as a great country organizing exceptional world events, thereby contributing to the development of the “Russian world” narrative and strengthening the power of the ruling regime in the Russian Federation,” the ministry said in a statement.

The state security authorities of Lithuania did not see a threat in the figure skater from the Navka show Figure skating

The Interior Ministry’s letter to the president also notes that other Lithuanian dancers, with the exception of Drobyazko and her husband Povilas Vanagas, did not participate in such events, “so Drobiazko could not but understand that her participation in them testifies to the approval of the ideology supported by the organizers of the events, and at the same time about supporting a state that poses a threat to the security interests of Lithuania.”

“It should be noted that, while acquiring citizenship of Lithuania, Drobyazko also promised to abide by the laws of the republic, respect the independence of the state and its territorial integrity, but by her actions she does not keep her promise given by the oath and, collaborating with a regime hostile to the Lithuanian state, defames the name of Lithuania,” also the ministry said in a statement.

In June, the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania supported the initiative to deprive Drobiazko of citizenship. Amendments allowing the withdrawal of citizenship granted on an exceptional basis (as in the case of Drobiazko) were adopted at the end of March.

Drobyazko then stated that she could not influence such decisions of the Lithuanian authorities. “That’s their business. In principle, everything is in order in my life, ”she said.

Navka, the Turin Olympic champion in ice dancing, said that Lithuania should be proud of the figure skater. “Margarita and Povilas not only do not pose a threat to the national security of Lithuania, but are the pride and symbol of the country,” she said. According to Navka, everything that happens to Russian athletes at international tournaments and to Drobyazko in connection with participation in the show is “outrageous and devoid of any common sense.”

A native of Moscow, Drobyazko became a Lithuanian citizen in 1993 to represent that country at the Olympics with Vanagas. In 2000, the skaters got married and won bronze at the World Championships. The couple lives and works in Russia.

Last August, Drobyazko and Vanagas were excluded from the list of those awarded the Order of Gediminas.

This summer, the couple performs in Navka’s show Sleeping Beauty. Legend of the Two Kingdoms”, which takes place in Sochi.
