Nettorama and Boni Merger: Supermarket Chains Join Forces to Expand Presence

Jul 28, 2023 at 11:39 Update: 43 minutes ago

Supermarket chains Nettorama and Boni will continue together. This is what the companies told their employees today. The two chains will continue under the name Nettorama, the name Boni will gradually disappear.

All Boni supermarkets will be converted in the coming years. “But no concessions are made to price and quality,” says Boni director Bouke van der Wal.

Together, the companies have 83 stores and 6,800 employees in the Netherlands. The chains say that the merger will not cost jobs in the stores and distribution centers. Some jobs will disappear at the head offices.

Nettorama comes from North Brabant and has most of its shops there. But the chain also has branches in Limburg, Gelderland and South Holland, among others. Boni comes from Nijkerk and has many shops in Utrecht and around the Veluwe.

According to Michel Mattheeuws, director of Nettorama, the merger of the two chains is a logical step. “We have the same DNA, are financially healthy and complement each other well.”

Many Dutch supermarkets have merged in recent years. This is how PLUS and Co-op will continue together. Supermarket chains DEEN and Jan Linders sold themselves because, as small supermarket chains, they could no longer compete well in the market.
