FAJAR.CO.ID, MAKASSAR– The central government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is ready to help the South Sulawesi Provincial Government build a stadium in Makassar.
It’s just that, PUPR asked the South Sulawesi Provincial Government to settle the land issue first. Then propose funding assistance.
Director of Strategic Infrastructure, Directorate General of Cipta Karya, Ministry of PUPR, Essy Asiah, said that his party was in a waiting position. If the South Sulawesi Provincial Government has a mature plan, it needs to be discussed with PUPR and related partners, including the legal umbrella.
“If there is already a plan, let’s discuss it first. This planning is one of the redines criteria when we are going to build a stadium,” he told Fajar.
Essy said, all plans made by the South Sulawesi Provincial Government would also be discussed and studied further to be followed up. The reason is, without careful planning the construction of a stadium in Makassar will not be realized.
“We’re just waiting for the readiness of the local government, where and when to build it. We are now ready to help if the planning is in place, in accordance with FIFA standards,” he explained.
Essy emphasized that his party did not want the stadium construction plan to be just superficial. It has to be FIFA standard considering that in South Sulawesi there is PSM Makassar which is often a regular for international competitions, both the AFC and the Asian Champions League.
“If everything is finished and there are funds, then the leadership asks us to build it, yes we will build it,” he explained.
Meanwhile, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that if the South Sulawesi Provincial Government needed financial assistance, his party was ready to help according to the budget’s capacity.
