Luis Suarez Denied Reunion with Messi at Inter Miami: Gremio Refuses Release

KOMPAS.com – Lionel Messi will not be reunited with Luis Suarez at Inter Miami. The Uruguay national team striker was not released by his club, Gremio.

After bringing in Lionel Messi, followed by Sergi Busquets and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami has the ambition to complete the “mini Barcelona” project by bringing in Luis Suarez.

David Beckham’s club reportedly wants to bring in Luis Suarez, who is currently playing in the Brazilian League with Gremio.

However, Inter Miami’s ambition to sign Luis Suarez is unlikely to come true.

Because, Gremio emphasized that they did not want to let go of the 36-year-old striker.

It is known, Suarez’s contract at Gremio will only end on December 31, 2024.

Gremio coach, Renato Portaluppi, said that Suarez would last until his contract expires at the end of this year.

“There is no doubt, his (Suarez) mind is clear for the club and the supporters. He will stay with us until December,” Portaluppi said as quoted by FourFourTwo, Thursday (27/7/2023).

Luis Suarez joined Gremio in early 2023 after a brief spell at his boyhood club Nacional.

Until now, Suarez has made 31 appearances with Gremio and scored 16 goals.

Portaluppi said Suarez’s presence was very important for the team which is now ranked second in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A.

“His presence is important for us, both on and off the pitch. He has helped us a lot and I hope he continues that,” said Portaluppi.

Luis Suarez himself has defended Barcelona for six seasons. Together with Lionel Messi and Neymar, he formed the iconic MSN trio on the front lines of the Blaugrana.

Suarez left Barcelona at the end of the 2019-2020 season and then crossed to Atletico Madrid.

The striker nicknamed El Pistolero lasted for two seasons at Atletico and then returned to Uruguay to defend Nacional.

Now, with no green light from Gremio to move, Suarez will not be reunited with Messi, Busquets and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami.
