Normally, Sony maintains a fairly tight schedule for announcing and releasing games for PS Plus. The PS Plus Essential games on the first Tuesday of the month, the PS Plus Extra and Premium games on the third Tuesday. The announcement then always takes place the Wednesday before.
Sony is making an exception this time. One of the free PS Plus games for September has already been announced and will also be released before the rest! This is a day-one release of the Sea of Stars game. This game has a launch date of August 29 and on that day the game will be immediately playable for free for PS Plus subscribers.
Sony speaks up in the game catalog announcement tweet. It therefore appears that the game is not part of the monthly three games for PS Plus Essential and will therefore only be available to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.
Sea of Stars free for PS Plus subscribers
Sea of Stars is not a PlayStation Exclusive. The game will also be available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game is from Sabotage Studio, also known for The Messenger, of which Sea of Stars is a prequel. The game was initially funded from a Kickstarter.
Anyone who wants to try out the game now can get started today, a demo of the game has appeared in the PS Store.
