Every day during the summer, the franceinfo culture department shares its favorites with you. Tuesday July 25: “The Molière saga” by the company “Les estivants” at the Théâtre des Carmes Avignon.

“We had done a show that had been a flop with professionals in the professionsays Johana Giacardi, author, director, actress. So we really hit the road in the summer. I said to my team: ‘Go fuck, we leave the rooms, they will never understand us’. We were on the roads with our caravan playing in the campsites and I discovered a Molière whom I don’t know well, who also suffered failures, who left the capital. There, there was an identification system.”
“I said to myself: ‘I am the reincarnation of Molière!’, and that was really the starting point for writing this show. We must succeed in telling the life of Molière by weaving bridges, links with our own history.”

trestles outrageous, anachronistic accessories appear, operetta outfits, cosmonaut outfits. With the language and codes of their generation, the five accomplices evoke the time when Molière, denied by his father and in failure in Paris, traces the road for 13 years with his troupe.
A delighted audience
The life of Molière is a novel, told at a brisk pace in a schoolboy tone with in particular the years in Pézenas, under the protection of the Prince of Conti before he sank into Puritanism. Then, the return to Paris where his Tartuffe caused a scandal and this observation: as in the 17th century, the life of a company is subject to the goodwill of the powerful, courtiers and critics.
“When did the golden age really take place for Molière? Was it the ardor of the young years when they left to play on the roads – a little punk – or when it arrives at the Court, that there is something which is established, but where all of a sudden, there are criticisms and orders. Quite quickly and quite naturally, I wondered what these fashionable salons would look like today. The five “bad-ass” of the young theater dare everything, the public is delighted.
