Apple Watch Back to being a helper for its users, this feature on this smartwatch made by Apple saved a runner from Norway, Robert Naess, who had an accident while running in Bergen, Norway.
Launching from Gizmochina, Naess, who is also an Investment Manager, did a morning run in the city of Bergen. Even though he is an experienced runner who is familiar with his running path, unfortunately he slipped at a corner.
As a result he suffered several broken ribs and his lungs decreased drastically so he had difficulty breathing. While enduring the pain he struggled to ask for help using his iPhone.
Luckily, thanks to the fall detection capabilities and emergency calls on the Apple Watch, this 59 year old man immediately called the emergency number via his Apple Watch to ask for an ambulance to come to the location. Within 15 minutes he was rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
While waiting for help to arrive, Naess observed more than 100 cars passing by but could not signal for help. The Apple Watch’s hidden emergency calling capabilities proved to be instrumental in this situation.
After receiving medical treatment, doctors confirmed the extent of his injuries, and Naess expressed his gratitude to the Apple Watch for saving his life. He mentioned that due to his critical condition, the rapid response of this device was very important.
The incident adds to the long list of lives saved by the Apple Watch, which has received praise for its fall detection and crash detection features.
Previous incidents included saving a man with life-threatening internal bleeding and helping a woman in Cincinnati who had a high-risk blood clot.
