Severe Weather Causes Landslide and Disruptions in Eastern Norway

Heavy rain has dominated the weather situation in Eastern Norway today. Gjøvikbanen is closed and there is a risk of stormwater on the roads.

There has also been a landslide over 250 BC at Vingrom in Lillehammer. The landslide is partially blocking the road, and there is partial access to the site, according to the Swedish Traffic Agency.

A contractor must be on the way.

LANDSLIDE: Due to a lot of rainfall recently, the soil is saturated with water. That caused this landslide to erupt on Tuesday morning. The avalanche went 2km from Vingrom.

Several closed train lines

The water also causes problems for the trains.

Right now these train lines are closed:

The Dovrebanen: Has been closed between Hamar and Brumunddal after a tree fell over the line and caused a power cut. The error on the train line has been corrected, and traffic is running again.

Travelers must still expect delays and cancellations, Banenor writes on its website.

Gjøvikbanen: There is stormwater on the track, and the crews are struggling to drain the water away because it is raining so heavily. The track is closed between Jaren and Gjøvik due to the weather conditions. For now, they don’t know how long it will take. A new update is expected at 3 p.m.

Must be prepared for delays

Harry Korslund, press officer in Banenor, tells NRK that work is being done as quickly as possible to correct the mistakes.

– The extent of the damage has not yet been clarified in detail. Travelers must be prepared that there may be some delays for a while during the day. We update with new information as soon as we know more, he says.

WET: This is how it looks on the track between Gjøvik and Jaren now.
