The Price of Recreation in Lipno nad Vltavou: Is it Worth it?

The recreation center in Lipno nad Vltavou in the south of Bohemia attracts thousands of tourists from home and abroad every year. This original timber village, located near the dam on the left bank of the Lipno valley reservoir, which is the largest dam reservoir in the Czech Republic, has experienced rapid development over the past three decades and now offers its visitors a number of attractions including water sports, a bobsleigh track, a bike path, a bike park and an aqua park. If you like to play sports in nature or just sunbathe on the beach in the summer months and you don’t want to travel far beyond the borders of our country, Lipno can be the ideal destination for you. We decided to go through the popular resort and bring you up-to-date information on prices here.

If you arrive in the picturesque South Bohemian village by bus, you can buy refreshments in the local fast food restaurant near the parking lot, where, among other things, they offer a hamburger for 145 CZK, a hot dog for 59 CZK and the German specialty leberkäse for 75 CZK. Here you can refresh yourself with a pint of pilsner for 55 CZK or a kofola for 49 CZK.

Visitors who have just arrived in Lipno nad Vltavou in the sweltering summer heat are naturally tempted to refresh themselves in the clear, cool water of the local dam reservoir after a long journey. Therefore, their first journey from the parking lot usually goes to the nearby beach, where we also go. On the banks of the Lipno we see numerous families basking happily in the sun’s rays, excited children splashing in the water and groups of teenagers playing beach volleyball. We see a young woman with a small boy standing in front of a snack stand. “Mommy, I’d like some ice cream,” the child begs. The mother stares in disbelief for a moment at the displayed price list offering one scoop of ice cream for 50 CZK and then replies: “Martínka, we still have donuts from my aunt in the car.” “But mom, I’d like a cold one!” insists the little boy, barely of school age. “Martínk, it’s terribly expensive here. Tomorrow I’ll buy you a Walrus in Lidl,” the mother tries to calm the parched child. Martínek’s thirsty eyes do not hide his disappointment.

Next, we head towards the MOLO Restaurant, which is part of the newly built MOLO Lipno resort. The menu offers beef tenderloin steak for 990 CZK, chicken breast for 660 CZK and cauliflower steak for 530 CZK. You can wash down your lunch with a glass of prosecco: a single bottle will cost you 190 CZK, a 0.75l bottle costs 1,100 CZK. The restaurant seems rather empty. After a while, however, we see a family with three children leaving, with whom we then start talking. They are said to be originally from Lviv, they fled the war last year. They are very satisfied with the ratio of quality and price in the local restaurant. “It’s cheaper than when we were in Italy in June,” the man explains. “It is beautiful here. They have pedalos here like at sea, but there are no such waves here. It’s very good here for children,” says Lipna’s smiling wife.

If you also want to take a ride on a Martini pedal boat with a slide while visiting Lipno, you can rent it from a rental company right on the beach near the MOLO restaurant. Without registration, one hour will cost you CZK 389, two hours will cost you CZK 761, and three hours will cost you CZK 1,038. However, if you register for the “Lipno.card loyalty club”, one hour spent on this vessel will cost you CZK 350 and two hours will cost you CZK 685. Three hours on a pedal boat costs CZK 935 after the discount. The rental company also offers paddleboards, which are slightly cheaper to rent: one hour without registration costs CZK 278, with registration CZK 250.

In addition to the MOLO Restaurant, the MOLO resort also includes the MOLO Bistro and Cafe du Lac pastry shop. MOLO Bistro offers a tempting special breakfast menu from 9 am to 11 am; here you can treat yourself to, for example, scrambled eggs with onion, butter and bread for 170 CZK or fritters for 180 CZK.

And if you happen to get really hungry during recreation in Lipno, the Cafe du Lac pastry shop, nicknamed by the locals as the “pink pastry shop”, a little further away offers all kinds of sweet snacks for a change, such as the “diver” cake for 220 CZK or the “lemon” cake for 180 CZK. You can then wash down the sweet taste in your mouth with fresh tea for 120 crowns.

Prices in Lipno restaurants often differ significantly. While a beef tenderloin steak would cost you 990 CZK at the MOLO Restaurant, you can buy it for 489 CZK at the Admirál restaurant, less than a ten-minute walk from the beach.

One of the tourist centers inside Lipno nad Vltavou is undoubtedly the Marina complex surrounding the local port. Many hungry and thirsty tourists pass through here every day, who are exposed to temptation in the form of the local restaurant Neptunus, whose menu offers, among other things, fried pork steak with summer potato salad for 345 CZK. We decided to sit here. In the toilet, we saw an elderly gentleman taking out a thermos from his rucksack, after which he filled it with water from the tap. This prompted us to look at the water prices at this establishment and we found that the restaurant offers a 0.75 bottle of pure H2O for 89 CZK.
