The very special case of Hoover in Alabama has received a lot of attention, and on Tuesday it took another dramatic turn.

Carlee Russell disappeared without a trace after she reported a child walking along the highway. After calling 911, she called a relative who claims to have heard screams from Russell.

The police and other emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. There they found no children but they found Russell’s car abandoned, her wig, phone and handbag.

A large search operation was launched and many people got involved on social media. 49 hours later, the case took another turn when Russell turned up at home.

She explained to the police that a man came out of the forest while she was walking to check the condition of the alleged small child along the road.

She then explained that the man must have grabbed her, dragged her over a fence and forced her into a car. She also explained that the man was the man had another woman with him, but she only heard her voice. Police chief Nick Derziz in Hoover, Alabama, has told the press about the woman’s explanation.

She was also able to give a description of the man: With orange hair with a large bald spot. Russell reportedly managed to run, but was caught up again.

Now it turns out that what sounded like a violent drama was no drama at all. Her lawyer, Emory Anthony, says Russell made up the whole scheme.

– My client apologizes for what she has done, to the local community, volunteers who have helped, and to the police, says the statement from the lawyer according to ABC.

– There was no kidnapping on 13 July. My client did not see any children along the road. My client did not leave the Hoover area when she was reported missing. My client had no one to help her. This is something she has done alone.

It was before a planned interview with the police that the case took this turn. Instead of appearing for questioning, the police received the statement from the lawyer Russell should meet the police with.

The police are now in contact with the prosecuting authorities to find out what the 25-year-old will be charged with.

Police have checked Russell’s search history. Among other things, there was a search for the film “Taken” from 2008. It is about a young woman who is kidnapped, which the police pointed out earlier this week as “very unusual”.
