Ukrainian bandura virtuoso Darja Leleko and cellist Kāris Auzāns have created a special concert program “Spogulis spogulis” to give ten concerts to the residents of Riga and guests of the city in symbolically selected places in different neighborhoods.
The opening concert of the program created by the interesting creative tandem is already planned for Tuesday, July 25, at 4 p.m. in Brīvības Square. In the second half of the same day, at 6 p.m., both will play music in Viesturdārz, or Song Festival Park. The concerts are available free of charge.
This musical duet is characterized by courage and unity – as bandurist Darja Leleko herself says: “The instrument is my struggle!”. The concerts are also a reminder that the war in Ukraine is not over yet, and our support for Ukrainians is still needed.
At the concerts, the duo will perform both Latvian and Ukrainian folk music, Ukrainian-Jewish folk melodies, Ukrainian spiritual music and original music by Kārļis Auzāns. “Darja Leleko is very grateful to Latvia for its support to Ukraine and with the greatest joy sings in the Latvian language and plays Latvian folk music on the bandura, the Ukrainian national instrument,” informs the concert organizers.
