There is a severe fire on the island of Sicily in Italy. On Monday evening, Alexander Persvangen-Johansen (19) and the traveling party find themselves forced to evacuate.

Persvangen-Johansen is located in the district of Modello in Palermo, which is part of Sicily.
– The entire mountain has started to burn. We have had to evacuate from the apartment we have rented. It was the neighbors who said we had to get away – the flames are less than a kilometer away now, says Persvangen-Johansen to VG at 10.30pm on Monday, Norwegian time.
Persvangen-Johansen says that it started to burn in the mountain during the day on Monday.
– It has been 42 degrees here today. A fire started on the edge of the mountain, and the fire brigade extinguished some of the fire, but not all. Then it started to catch fire more, and the flame has now descended towards all the homes, claims the Norwegian, who is in a traveling party of a total of five people.
He says that they now probably have to try to find a hotel where they can spend the night, and possibly also the five remaining days of the holiday.
– It’s a bit awkward to spend more money on finding another place to live, says Persvangen-Johansen.

Yahoo News writes that the fire service has tried to stop a forest fire in the area on Monday.
The website further writes that images from the area show fire planes and helicopters dropping water bombs in the area.
In addition, fire crews from surrounding towns must have been called to the area.
On Sunday, the news agency Reuters wrote that Sicily experienced power outages, as a result of a heat wave and high temperatures.
According to the news agency, the temperature rose to as much as 47 degrees in some places in the region on Sunday. This is only 1.8 degrees colder than the heat record in Europe.
A forest fire is said to have started in the southern region of Calabria, over 400 kilometers away from Modello.
