Intervention by Firefighters in Montpellier’s Antigone District: Residents Evacuated Due to Cellar Fire

This Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the end of the afternoon, an intervention by the firefighters took place in Montpellier, in the Antigone district, due to a fire starting in the cellar of a building. For security reasons, about fifty residents were evacuated during the operation.

This incident caused great fear in the Montpellier region on Sunday July 23, 2023, at the end of the afternoon. The Hérault firefighters were called to intervene to put out a fire in a seven-storey building.

The fire started in the cellar of this residence located on avenue Jacques Cartier, just after the Juvénal bridge which crosses the Lez. Many resources were mobilized to bring the fire under control. As a precaution, about fifty residents were evacuated while waiting for the firefighters to intervene.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Traffic was temporarily halted by municipal police during the operations. The device was lifted a little after 8 p.m.
