“We have short-term and medium-term goals,” announced the executive director of the Portiva group, Pavel Svoreň. “The short-term one is the immediate return of the team to the first league. Then we would like to settle in the middle of the table of the highest competition. We are also going to increase the budget. It is possible to double it, but this is not an immediate intention. The club must grow gradually,” he says. The current budget of Zbrojovka for the season is 96 million crowns.
Čeněk Absolon will represent the Chamber of Commerce in the club’s new ownership structure. “In Zbrojovce, the era of perfumed and gelled boys who came here for a lucrative job must end. We will prefer warriors who will fight with burning hearts on the field for every ball. Our goal is for the team to one day be able to repeat what the predecessors of the current players achieved in June 1978 in Trnava,” Absolon reminded of the only championship title in the history of the club from the Moravian capital.
Even at the legendary stadium behind Lužánky, the team headed by Kroupa, Václavíček, Jarůšek, Janečka and Dvořák deserved it under the leadership of coach Masopust.
However, for this Zbrojovka necessarily needs suitable facilities. In order for the team to be able to play home games at the Královopolska Stadium in Srbská Street after a possible return to the elite, it must be reconstructed. The Brno council approved a subsidy of one hundred million crowns for it. “It will be necessary to build a new playing area, technical and social facilities and reconstruct the artificial lighting,” calculated the priorities of Václav Bartoněk, the current boss of Zbrojovka and still the majority owner of the club.
According to him, it will be possible to play the highest competition at the existing stadium for a maximum of five seasons. “We are negotiating with the city about the construction of a new arena and facilities for youth. We should present some solution in the last quarter,” Svoreň hopes.
The start of the Fantasy League is approaching
Bartoněk is extremely appreciative of the fact that, following an agreement with the new shareholders, he managed to get the experienced Zdeněk Psotka as sports director. In the coming days, Ladislav Valášek should become the temporary executive director in Zbrojovce, who previously worked in this position in Zlín or in Bohemians and was also active in union functions. “He will analyze what works in the club and what doesn’t,” said Svoreň.
This year, the right of the people of Brno to use the historical name Zbrojovka will end. The new management intends to do their best to keep the name of the club. “And in no case do we expect any commercial entity to appear in the name of the club,” assured Svoreň.
