President of the Federal Council Claudia Arpa welcomes a high-ranking guest of state for a working meeting
Vienna (PK) – The bilateral relations between Austria and Vietnam were the focus of a working meeting between Federal Council President Claudia Arpa and the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Võ Văn Thưởng in Parliament today. Thưởng, who is in Austria on an official visit and was accompanied by Foreign Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn, among others, thanked, among other things, for the support in the fight against the corona pandemic and emphasized that Austria was one of Vietnam’s most important partners in the EU. Vietnam attaches great importance to maintaining its relationship with Austria, which it established more than 50 years ago, he said. At his meeting with Federal President Van der Bellen this morning, there was a common opinion on measures to deepen and expand bilateral relations.
Federal Council President Arpa referred, among other things, to projects to redesign school buildings in Vietnam with Austrian support and planned cooperation in the field of dual vocational training. Austria is very interested in expanding the excellent partnership with Vietnam, she confirmed and addressed the areas of renewable energy and health, among other things. Vietnam is also an attractive market for Austria. According to Arpa, Europe can also learn a lot from the Vietnamese culture’s appreciation of old age.
Asked by Thưởng about the ninth global conference of young parliamentarians in Hanoi in September 2023, Arpa explained that an Austrian delegation was planned to attend the conference. Thưởng also advocated an exchange of specialist committees of the Austrian and Vietnamese parliaments in the areas of legislation and control. From the Vietnamese side, the delegation also included the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyêñ Văn Hùng, and the Minister of the Vietnamese Presidential Chancellery, Lê Khánh Hải.
In the morning Võ Văn Thưởng was received by Federal President Van der Bellen with military honors in the inner courtyard. Before that, Thưởng had signed the Golden Book of the City of Vienna in the presence of Mayor Michael Ludwig. In addition to making an entry in the guest book, the program also included a tour of the historic meeting room in Parliament. Tomorrow Thưởng will meet, among others, the Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskozil and visit the Schattendorf wind and solar park. (close) gs
