SHARJAH, 24th July, 2020 (WAM) — The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWGA) discussed joint cooperation with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company to develop systems and infrastructure in the energy sector, raise the production efficiency of electricity, and use desalination plants using low-carbon reverse osmosis technology to contribute to supporting and achieving the clean energy strategy to achieve the state’s vision of climate neutrality by 2050.
This came during a meeting between His Excellency Saeed Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, and His Excellency Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Shamsi, Director General of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, at the headquarters of the Authority, with His Excellency Othman Juma Al Ali, CEO of the Emirates Water and Electricity Company.
Al Suwaidi stressed that the Authority’s strategy aims to continue to cooperate with strategic partners to continue providing the best services and meet the growing demand for energy and water and operational planning to achieve a balance between demand and sustainability goals, indicating that the Authority seeks more cooperation and consolidation of relations with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company and contracting long-term companies to achieve mutual benefit and provide services according to the best specifications.
He noted that the Authority, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, is keen to cooperate and coordinate with all parties and use modern and advanced technologies to support the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, raise energy efficiency, meet needs, reduce carbon emissions, reduce the environmental impact of production processes, and spread awareness of methods of optimal use of energy by relying on specialized research and studies and continuing to develop infrastructure projects in the fields of energy in all regions of the Emirate of Sharjah.
For his part, Abdullah Al Shamsi said that the meeting reviewed the axes of the Authority’s strategic plan and its future projects, which include a number of ambitious projects to meet the growing demand for energy, face challenges, provide the best services to customers, study changes in demand and consumption rates, take advantage of future opportunities, employ advanced technology, increase energy efficiency, develop transmission and distribution systems and networks, raise the efficiency of production units, strengthen relations and activate cooperation to enhance energy security, which has become a pivotal factor in progress and civilizational renaissance.
