Lufthansa Group, the largest airline in Europe, will for the first time launch regular cargo flights on the Frankfurt-Yerevan-Frankfurt route. This was reported today, July 24, by the press service of Armenia-International Airports CJSC (concessionaire of Yerevan Zvartnots Airport).
It is noted that the cargo division of Lufthansa will start operating flights from July 30. Flights will be carried out once a week – on Sundays.
Apparently, the decision of the largest German air carrier is connected with an attempt to find a new bypass route for the airspace of the Russian Federation against the backdrop of the unprecedented scale of anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union, including in the transport sector.
Zvartnots Airport receives and sends 90 flights per day on average and in this regard has reached the limit of its capabilities. This, as reported EADailyin April of this year, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia said Gnel Sanosyan. Infrastructural and other changes are needed to serve a larger flow, the head of the department noted then.
