Announced last May, the WXV, a new international women’s rugby union competition, is taking shape. Three months before kick-off, World Rugby unveiled this Sunday the final pools for the three levels of the competition.
This new women’s competition is becoming clearer. The WXV, formalized by World Rugby last May, today unveiled its final pools for the three levels of competition. France, England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland were the only teams to know their positions so far.
After their qualification phase in the Pacific Four Series, Canada, Australia and New Zealand join France, England and Wales in WXV1. This first stage of the competition will take place in New Zealand on October 21, 28 and November 4. As a reminder, it is organized in a cross-group format, allowing the selections to face teams they are not used to. France should therefore face Australia, Canada and England.
Italy overtakes Spain, Kazakhstan qualified
Winner of Spain this Saturday (23-0), Italy has thus won its place for the WXV2. They join Samoa, Japan, Scotland, USA and South Africa, and are set to face the latter three. This level of the competition will be played on October 14, 21 and 28 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The six teams will have their three respective matches on the same dates as WXV2 (October 14, 21 and 28). For the occasion, it is Dubai which will host this last stage of the competition and the format of crossed hens applies there too.
A relegation system will be implemented in WXV2 and WXV3, with the competition aiming to “to greatly increase the reach, competitiveness and value of elite women’s rugby.”in the words of Sally Horox, director of women’s rugby at World Rugby.
