Jakarta –
Batam City will receive additional electricity supply. The electricity supply comes from a collaboration between PT PLN Batam and PT Energi Listrik Batam (ELB) to increase the capacity of the Tanjung Uncang Steam Gas Power Plant (PLTGU) with a power of 2 x 35 Megawatts (MW) Simple Cycle Power Plant (SCPP) and 39 MW Combine Cycle Power Plant (CCPP).
Main Director of PLN Batam Muhammad Irwansyah Putra said the addition of generating capacity was carried out by building a Steam Turbine Generator starting in the third quarter of 2023 and is targeted to be completed within 24 months.
“PLN Batam is ready, of course we want to make an even better contribution, and create sustainable development that is environmentally friendly,” said Irwansyah in a written statement, Sunday (23/7/2023).
He explained that the Tanjung Uncang PLTG with a capacity of 2 x 35 megawatts (MW) had previously supported Batam’s electricity system since 2016. Through this collaboration, later the PLTG exhaust gas will be used as fuel for a Steam Turbine Generator with a capacity of 39 MW as well as converting the Tanjung Uncang PLTG into Tanjung Uncang PLTGU ELB with a total contracted capacity of 109 MW.
Additional capacity through the construction of PT ELB’s Combine Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) and utilization of exhaust gas from Simple Cycle (Gas Turbine), will increase the generating capacity in the system. In addition, this step can help efforts to reduce carbon emissions in Batam-Bintan.
“This is in line with the government’s program as well as PLN Batam’s commitment to support PLN’s transformation. This is also being done to achieve the net zero emission target in 2060,” said Irwansyah.
In line with this, the President Director of PT Medco Power Indonesia Eka Satria as the majority shareholder of PT ELB said, the collaboration of all parties is important to face the challenges of electricity supply needs in Batam. According to him, with the high electricity growth and the concept of independence in the implementation of electricity by PT PLN Batam, it is a special attraction for investors in Batam.
“There are not a few challenges to the supply of electricity, starting from the provision of gas fuel, bureaucratic procedures and the construction of a reliable power plant with sufficient capacity. This certainly requires commitment and collaboration with PLN Batam, developers and all electricity stakeholders in Batam,” said Eka.
Eka added that this cooperation was also the starting point for the commitment between PLN Batam, ELB and PT Inti Karya Persada Tekhnik (IKPT) in realizing the conversion of the 70 MW PLTG to Tanjung Uncang PLTGU with a capacity of 109 MW. Eka hopes that through this conversion can reduce the use of gas fuel and reduce the basic cost of providing generators.
“This is a concrete step shown by PT PLN Batam and Medco Power Group in implementing energy conservation and supporting the Government’s program to reduce carbon emissions in Indonesia and achieve net zero emission commitments by 2060,” concluded Eka.
