Dangerous Pest Found in 10 Tons of Blueberries Imported to St. Petersburg from Serbia

Experts found larvae of a dangerous pest in 10 tons of blueberries that arrived in St. Petersburg from Serbia. The incident was reported in the press service of the SZMU Rosselkhoznadzor.

An unpleasant surprise was revealed during the quarantine phytosanitary control of the entire batch. After that, the berries were sent for laboratory research.

It turned out that Asian berry fruit flies are hiding in the product. This is a dangerous pest of many fruit and berry crops: cherries, plums, peaches, apricots, strawberries, blackberries and others. Females lay their eggs in ripening fruits, which the larvae feed on throughout their lives.

In 2023, this is the first case of detection of this organism when importing regulated products. Now blueberries are subject to complete destruction at the expense of the owner of the product.

Previously 78.ru said that almost 25 tons of oranges with a new type of pest were brought to St. Petersburg.
