“I will ride the Vuelta. I will stand on the starting line in Barcelona, together with Primož. We will go into the race as captains,” Vingegaard was quoted as saying by Marca. The last time they started together in the same race was last year’s Tour, which they also entered as team leaders.
So far, only three-time champion Roglič, who won the Giro d’Italia for the first time in his career this year, has been confirmed for the Vuelta. It is unusual for a Tour winner to also compete in the final tough three-week race in the same year. The Vuelta is scheduled from August 26 to September 17.
Vingegaard will celebrate his second Tour title after today’s ceremonial finish in Paris. After Saturday’s penultimate stage, he leads his Slovenian rival Tadej Pogačar by 7:29 minutes. In the final day of the Tour, the overall standings are not traditionally attacked.
