The venue is still the No. 8 Middle School in Chongqing, which is equipped with large-scale Asian competitions. This year, our opponents in the same group include the host Chongqing No. 8 Middle School, Chengdu Pidu District No. 1 Middle School and Taiyuan No. 15 Middle School. The 3 teams are the top teams in their provinces and cities. Chongqing No. 8 Middle School is the champion team in 2018. The domestic team has always been taller than us. The average height is more than 175cm, and it is 1cm taller than our tallest players. Therefore, if we want to break out, we must work hard on serving and defense, because the opponent must attack our defense line with a high point.
Two weeks before the national competition, we participated in the first Asian U16 Women’s Volleyball Championship in Hangzhou. All 8 players in the team participated in the competition. Following the Asian competition, the key players have already felt like playing in a large-scale competition. Therefore, we did not have a big goal before the competition. In the group match, we won the 2016 runner-up team, Pidu No. 1 Middle School of Chengdu, 3:1. Although we lost 0:3 to the host, Chongqing No. 8 Middle School, we also defeated Taiyuan No. 15 Middle School 3:1 in the final game. We won the second place with 2 wins and 1 loss in the group stage. In the cross match, we will face Baotou No. 1 Middle School, the third-placed team in the other group. Whoever wins will advance to the top four. As a result, we also defeated Baotou No. 1 Middle School with a result of 3:1, and entered the semi-finals of the national competition for the first time in history. I still remember that the best results of our Hong Kong Girls Junior Team in the past were sixth in 2018 and eighth in 2019. It is a dream to break the record and enter the semi-finals.
When we come to the semi-finals, we have to face the traditional strong team, which is also the first team in another group, Tianjin Sports School. They have always been the top four teams every year. In the group matches, they won more games without losing 10 points in each game. Therefore, in the pre-match deployment, we hope to use the serve to target the opponent, so that the score will not be too wide. Although this time we lost to the Tianjin team 1:3 (23:25, 20:25, 25:22, 21:25), but we rely on targeted The deployment of serving and non-stop hitting the tentacle out of bounds, while narrowing the defensive area, allowed the opponent to defend against empty nets or high-point strong attacks. We managed to score 20 points in each game, and we even took one game away from the Tianjin team. In the group match, only the Shanghai team could win a game from Tianjin. In addition, we had a 6-point lead over Tianjin in the first and second games.
In the final third place match, we played against the host Chongqing No. 8 Middle School again. Because the opponent lost to Shanghai Youyi Middle School in the semi-finals and failed to make the gold medal as the host, she will definitely fight us with all her strength. In addition, we lost 0:3 (18:25, 17:25, 14:25) in the preliminary round. There is a big gap in points, so the opponent must expect to defeat us with the same score. Expect enough to end the best fight ever. In addition to following the deployment of the previous game against Tianjin, this set of tactics requires everyone to have an extremely excited expression no matter who gets every point, and use their voices to drive the entire game. In the end, we all lost to the host with 1:3 (25:23, 23:25, 24:26, 21:25), but every round was forcing the opponent, and it forced the opponent to make frequent mistakes. We successfully grabbed the first round, and at the same time, the second and third rounds were forced to a two-point tie. Our fourth place is indeed well deserved.
After the game, the organizing committee, coaches and referees of the teams all praised our Hong Kong team for its unsung attraction, which made them like our game very much, because every player on the field was full of smiles, and there was passion after scoring. The Hong Kong Girls Junior Team has set two records for the highest rankings in the national competitions (6th in 2018 and 4th in 2023) within 5 years.
