Two sexy and gifted artists inevitably make people talk. Many American media have lent them stormy relations. They made them lie every time. Or almost…
different styles
Beyoncé, born in 1981, and Solange, in 1986, embody models of strong women, despite their different styles. The eldest is one of the greatest pop singers of the 21st century, while the youngest, whose activities are more eclectic, places artistic rigor before commercial success. They grew up in Houston, the same fertile ground as other black celebrities like Debbie Allen (“Fame”) or Phylicia Rashad (the “Creed” saga). And they went on stage together in their debut, one being the interpreter and the other momentarily dancer of the group Destiny’s Child.
Control everything
These strong characters say they owe everything to their parents. “Our mother taught us to control our voice, our body and our work,” Solange told Interviewmagazine.com. “Our father, invested in the black cause, never gave in, even when it was easy to lose sight of what he had built. So we were brought up to be careful not to take the first opportunity and define our own niches!”
Strong character
While Beyoncé focuses on singing from the first shows at school, her sister flutters between poetry, dance and musical composition. Those around you are not surprised. “I thought, ‘She’s going to be someone super special!’” says the singer of the hit “Say my Name”. Because Knowles Junior is stubborn. “I always knew what I wanted!”, confirms the one who titled her first album “Solo Star” in order to underline her independence. “I remain firm, whether I am right or wrong! And an inner voice has always told me to trust my instincts.
Williams Sisters of Music
Being the youngest would also have allowed her to consider her eldest as a mentor. Some music critics, including Alan Light, see them as the “Venus and Serena Williams of music”. Because “they proudly celebrate their black femininity and dominate traditionally white microcosms.”
always united
Supporting and complimenting each other, the “Knowles Sisters” never hit the headlines with arguments. Apart from an altercation in an elevator in 2014. But this event, filmed by a camera, pitted Solange against Jay-Z, Beyoncé’s husband, who takes a few slaps and kicks. Critics rejoice too quickly. The family publishes a statement in US Weekly: “Both Jay and Solange acknowledge their role in this matter and have apologized. We are moving forward as a united family.”
kid’s surprise
The only trap (tender!) with which the big sister will manage to disconcert Solange will be an organized meeting with the rapper Nas, great idol of the young woman. “She cried and reacted like a kid!” laughs Beyoncé. “I was surprised and amused that ‘Mrs. Too-Cool-For-All’ was acting so comedic!” In short, typically sororal teasing!
