Heavy Rain Warnings Issued for West Coast and Metropolitan Area – Updates and Precautions

Today, Sunday (23rd), heavy rain is concentrated in the west coast while heavy rain warnings are in effect in the metropolitan area, parts of Gangwon, Chungcheong, and the west coast.

Heavy rain warnings are in effect for Taean and Seocheon in Chungnam, Gochang in Jeonbuk, and Ongjin in Incheon.

The Meteorological Administration announced that there will be places with very strong rain of 30 to 60 mm per hour or more in the metropolitan area and Chungcheongnam-do until this afternoon, and in the Gangwon inland until this evening.

Until tomorrow (24th), it is expected that it will rain in the metropolitan area from 50 to 100 mm and in many places up to 150 mm.

It will rain up to 120mm or more in Gangwon inland, Chungbuk, and Gyeongnam, and up to 200mm or more in Gwangju and Jeonnam.

The Korea Meteorological Administration requested that this rain be careful of additional rain damage as long precipitation belts were formed from north to south, and rather strong rain fell in places.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security launched the 2nd stage of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters at 9:00 pm yesterday (22nd), and the crisis warning level is maintained at the ‘serious’ level.

The Korea Forest Service also raised the landslide crisis alert to the highest level of ‘severe’ for eight provinces, including the metropolitan area, Gangwon, and Chungnam.
