Tesla Launches Operations in Malaysia, Expanding the Electric Vehicle Industry

Jakarta

Tesla chose Malaysia to launch its business operations in Southeast Asia. The electric car company under the control of Elon Musk launched the Tesla Model Y electric car as well as its headquarters in Malaysia.

quoted Thing Nikkei, Regional Director of Tesla, Isabel Fan said, the company’s focus is for Malaysia to become part of the development of the electric vehicle industry in the Southeast Asian region. He said, one of the main reasons Tesla chose Malaysia for expansion was due to the support from its government in policies related to electric vehicles.

Fans tout Tesla’s ability to charge super fast batteries. He said that his party saw that Malaysia was ready to add to its infrastructure.

“Malaysia will very much (be a part) of this development,” he said.

Tesla has launched an indoor super fast charging station at a local shopping mall in Malaysia. The American electric car manufacturer also opened online orders for Tesla Model Y and Model 3 in Malaysia. Not only that, Tesla will open a head office and Tesla Experience and Service Center as part of the Global Leaders BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) Malaysia initiative.

Malaysian Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz praised Tesla for choosing Malaysia for expansion.

“Tesla’s presence here will also help boost Malaysia’s pro-business and pro-investment credentials on the global stage and we look forward to welcoming more multinational investors who share our vision of developing a more sustainable, balanced and inclusive economic growth for our nation,” he said.

Malaysia’s deputy minister for investment, trade and industry, Liew Chin Tong, said the government’s role is to ensure that the entire electric vehicle ecosystem is as complete as possible without favoring any single company.

“There is a huge value chain to develop and Tesla’s arrival is a boost,” said Liew.
