Analysis and Insights on Slavia Prague’s Players and Performance

Has stopper Tomáš Vlček shown that he can be a stable member of the lineup after returning from a loan spell in Pardubice?

Clearly. He confirmed what we think and why he completed the ideal trip in our opinion. As a youngster, he got a glimpse of the A team, trained with the team for half a year, then won on loans. And when he has a real chance to play, he came back and already has some experience. Every case is different, sometimes a player gets an opportunity and is not ready for it. If he had received it a year ago, the position and performances would not have been the same in his case. It can grind young players. Tomáš came prepared, he had a successful spring part of the season in Pardubice individually and as a team. He managed tough matches, we evaluated that the time is right for him. We had a bit of a dilemma as to whether he would switch with Tomáš Holeš. It limits Tomáš (Holeš) from the left side a bit in passing, but because of Tomáš’s experience, we decided to deploy them like this, i.e. Vlčák on the right and Holi on the left. Vlčák has a great advantage in the form of a long penetration pass for the defense. Overall, it was a great performance by him, confirming the rising trend from training. I think this was his best and most dominant performance.

After the departure of David Jurásek and Peter Olayinka, you dealt with the composition of the left side in the lineup. Matěj Jurásek and Ivan Schranz started there in the starting eleven, who rotated a lot. How satisfied were you with the functioning of the left side?

I think we played the best there when Lukáš Provod came. But that’s my first impression after the game. Yes, we wanted to change the typology according to how the match will develop. That is why Matěj and Ivan switched positions. Honestly, our right side was much more dangerous than our left side. But that was also an opponent, because Gabriel plays in a good mood and it’s harder to get past him. The performance on the left was not bad, but we need to improve it. But playing in the form of David Jurásek and Peter Olayinka? It will take time for the boys to get to that level.

What do you think about the performance of striker Mojmír Chytil, who made a mark as a substitute player?

I liked him a lot. He fulfilled what we needed at that moment. Before his arrival, there was a passage when we lost a lot of balls at the top, which was also a mega chance for Hradec. New players then helped us. Mojmír showed great body play, timing for fights. He had one more beautiful action, but he sent it wide with a Kladno instep (stab). He indicated why we were taking him. That he plays well with his back to goal and puts pressure on the centre-back when he is disgusting. It’s hell for defenders. We believe that with quality players around us we can squeeze even more out of him.

What about Ondřej Lingr? Aren’t you afraid of his departure? He has permission to do so from management.

But he doesn’t have it from me, I have a simple opinion on it. He gave a great, energetic performance. He likes to play from the start, but we like it when he flies into an up-and-down game like that. The defenders are a bit more tired now, he has great ball coverage. He was one of the best on the field, even though he only played thirty minutes. I hope he doesn’t leave. The moment he signs a new contract, we will celebrate together.

Is it important to win the first game of the season?

Certainly. We won it in the past, we lost it a year ago in Boleslav with Hrad. It’s always good to start the season with a win, but it’s only one game for three points. It will definitely help new players though. I know that Ewerton, Santos and other players played for the first time a year ago and the bad results entering the new engagement hurt them. Now it will help Tomáš Vlček, even if he is old, or Mojmír Chytil. It’s good that the team is calm. We have a long week ahead of us, we can polish some things and we don’t have to dwell on bad performances or think about changes in the lineup or different formations.

Striker Muhamed Tijani did not participate in the match. In what condition is it?

He’s getting used to it and I think he will be for a long time. His biggest problem is with the intensity of the game. Now, at that rate, it will be overwhelmed in maybe ten minutes. He has great moments, flashes where he looks good. Against Hradec, we chose a trio of players at the top, others played the central striker. The qualification for the European Cups is approaching and we wanted to play the players we are counting on. If there was a need for a different development and we needed, for example, height in standard situations, maybe he would get on the field. But it’s a change of expression for him, he has to increase the work for the team, never rest in quotes, play up and down, offer himself when we have the ball, go into duels, work after losing the ball. It will take him a while, but not for a long period of time in his case.
