Rotoscoping Technique in Film: Exploring “God’s Dog” and Disney’s Influence

The principle of rotoscoping is simple but interesting – the film is first filmed with the participation of actors, but then redrawn by hand.

The directors of the film, Raitis and Lauris Ābeles, state that Walt Disney’s animation studio also practiced this technique, but there are not many such films in the adult genre, such as “God’s Dog”.

Commenting on his participation in the making of the film, Repše states that the work of an actor is very exciting and he feels satisfied to create something that the public wants to watch on cinema or TV screens together with other actors and masters. In addition, Repši has been interested in the acting profession since childhood.

The filming process was unusual – one of the directors remembers that, for filming purposes, he ordered the actors to beat themselves and eat cookies with a glaze similar to fly agarics.
