The county teams of the Center Party in both Nordland and Troms on Friday launched Agriculture and Food Minister Sandra Borch as a candidate for deputy leader of the Center Party after Ola Borten Moe’s resignation.

Borch himself has been silent about the proposal, until Saturday evening.

– It was a shock that my name came up so quickly, says Borch to the newspaper Northern Lights.

Nevertheless, she will not answer whether it is relevant for her to step in as the Center Party’s crown princess:

– Now it is early in the process, and it is important that the process is thorough. It is about the future of the party. We have a national assembly in a year and a half, and I hope we will have a central board that is well represented from all parts of the country, she says, and emphasizes:

– I am always ready to do the best possible job for the party, regardless of role.

Launched by Troms and Nordland

It was the county teams in Troms and Nordland that shortly after Borten Moe’s departure launched the Tromsvær native Borch as the new deputy chairman:

– She will be very unifying as a representative from Northern Norway. She has shown that she is a very capable politician through the work she has done in the government and for Northern Norway, said county leader in the Nordland Center Party Frank Johnsen to VG on Friday evening.

He was supported by the county leader in Troms, Svein Leiros:

– I have registered that Nordland Sp has fronted Sandra Borch, and as county leader in Troms, I would like to say that I fully support it. It’s a good name, and Sandra has done a great job.

Sandra Borch has been Minister of Agriculture and Food in Støre’s government since 2021, and has been elected to the Storting from Troms since 2017.

Ola Borten Moe announced on Friday afternoon his resignation as both research and higher education minister and deputy leader of the Center Party. It happened after he himself admitted a breach of the government’s integrity rules earlier that day.
