He was one of the last French internationals without a club. As revealed by the specialized media Plan de MatchJules Boscq finally knows his destination and it will be Iowa to evolve next season in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), the 3rd professional level in the United States after the NHL and its minor league, the AHL.
It is not the first choice of the 21-year-old Bordeaux defender, author of an excellent season both at club and with the Blues. After the World Cup in Finland, Jules Boscq had reached an agreement with the Kalpa club where the other international defender Hugo Gallet has been playing for 3 seasons. A two-way contract (Mestis-Liiga) awaited him with a development in Mestis (Finnish D2) within the IPK club at the start of the season. But an administrative problem had been thwarting the player’s plans for weeks and postponing the signing.
A strong French contingent in North America
The player and his agent then decided to prospect across the Atlantic where the numbers are beginning to expand for the next season. Boscq will therefore start at the bottom of the North American professional ladder at the Iowa Heartlanders, with the goal of playing at the top echelon in the AHL as much as possible during the season. He will not be lonely since he will find in Iowa the French center Louis Boudon who will play for the Wild, the franchise affiliated in AHL.
It will be the first time in the history of French hockey that the tricolor contingent will be so numerous in North America: in addition to Pierre-Edouard Bellemare (Seattle Kraken) and Alexandre Texier (Columbus Blue Jackets) who will play in the NHL, Pierrick Dubé has signed a two-way NHL-AHL contract with the Washington Capitals. In addition to Boudon, Justin Addamo will also play in the AHL (at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins).
