The United States and Poland to Face Off in 2023 Men’s Nations League Final in Gdansk

Respectively first and third in the preliminary phase, the United States and Poland will be opponents this Sunday in Gdansk for the final of the League of Nations.

The final of the 2023 Men’s Nations League will offer an unprecedented poster. On the floor of the Ergo Arena in Gdansk, the United States and Poland will be there this Sunday to succeed France. Fallers of the Blues during the quarter-finals, the Americans did not go into detail during their duel against Italy. The first set initially saw the two formations meet but Matthew Anderson’s teammates (17 points) ended up making the decision.

Hanging on for the time of the first 20 exchanges, the second set saw Italy gradually give in and it was after saving a first set point that Alessandro Michieletto’s teammates (9 points) found themselves with their backs to the wall. The suspense in this meeting did not last very long. With eight of the first twelve rallies in their pocket, the Americans led the race from start to finish. The second match point was good (25-19, 25-18, 25-19).

Poland in the final at home

A few hours before this meeting, it was the Poles who capsized their audience. Opposed to Japan, the protégés of Nikola Grbic were able to ignore a complicated start to the match. Indeed, the Japanese were able to stand out on the scoreboard thanks to a series of six exchanges won in a row. Captain Yuki Ishikawa’s teammates (22 points) took the lead at the end of the first set. Annoyed, the Poles raised their voices from the start of the second round. But, after going up to five points clear, Wilfredo Leon’s teammates (23 points) faltered, missing two set points before having to save one.

Winning three points in a row, Poland was able to get back on track. The third round then saw the selection of the host country of this final phase detach immediately and irremediably. After counting up to ten points in advance, the second set point allowed Poland to take the lead. The Japanese tried to pull themselves together at the start of the fourth round but, very quickly, the Poles regained control and never let go. It was on the second occasion to conclude that the Ergo Arena exploded (19-25, 28-26, 25-17, 25-21).
