Polish Border Guard Denies Russian Tennis Player Vera Zvonariova Entry Due to Undesirability

On Friday, the Polish border guard denied Russian tennis player Vera Zvonariova entry to the territory of Poland because she is on the list of undesirable persons. This was announced by the Polish Ministry of the Interior on Saturday. TASR took over the report from the PAP agency.

After arriving from Belgrade, Zvonariova showed control at the Warsaw airport that she had a French visa, the Polish Ministry of the Interior said. “The border guard did not let her in (to Poland) due to the security of the state and the protection of the public,” explained the Polish authorities. After arriving from Serbia, the Russian tennis player stayed in the airport transit zone and flew to Podgorica in Montenegro on Saturday afternoon. She was supposed to start the WTA tournament in Warsaw from Monday.

Poland has long condemned the regimes of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. It therefore decided to deny entry to its territory to persons who support the actions of Putin and Lukashenko, writes PAP.
