Unexplained Death of Nineteen Cows: Investigating Electric Shock and Fertilizers

Nineteen cows from a farmer in Adorp suddenly died in their stable on Friday evening. The fire brigade and a hazardous materials adviser were unable to determine the cause.

The fire brigade received a report of a nuisance air at the Spoorlaan in Adorp on Friday evening. On site, nineteen cows were found dead in their stables.

Deadly electric shock or dangerous fertilizers?

Research was done into manure gases or electrocution as possible causes of death, says spokesman Geert Walburg of the Groningen Security Region. “We also consulted with a hazardous substances adviser from Amsterdam.”

But evidence for the mysterious death was not found. “We have advised the farmer to ventilate the barn well and to call us in immediately if another incident occurs,” says Walburg.
